I went to the E.R yesturday for a cold/cough and also a rash. The thing is when the DR saw my skin without any testing he was assuming it's a allergic reaction to something that I ate, I told him I had nothing to eat for two days, he kept telling me YES it is from something that you ate, and once again I told him I haven't eaten in two days, but he kept saying YES I did, so I stopped agruing with him.. He gave me Benadryl and it did stop the itch for about four hrs, and that same night it started all over again.. And now it is spread all over my body.I am so SCARED, and don't know what to do.. Should I see another DR?
thank you i will hopfully get into the doctor soon to get it checked out thank you for helping me out
Hello,
Apart from scabies, contact dermatitis and lichen planus needs to be ruled out. Lichen planus is an itchy papular eruption characterized by its violaceous color. Treatment is available only on prescription and consists mainly of steroids, retinoids, hydroquinone and phototherapy. Also keep the area clean and apply some calamine lotion. For the itching take some oral antihistaminic like Benadryl.
It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

Hello,
Please elaborate the symptoms, site, description of rash as it is very difficult to confirm a diagnosis with out examination. It can be hives, allergic reaction, scabies bites, insect bites etc.
Till that time, you can take some OTC oral antihistamine medications like Benadryl or Claritin and see if it helps.
For mild-moderate symptoms a weak steroid may be used (e.g. hydrocortisone as dermacort), whilst more severe cases require a higher-potency steroid (e.g. clobetasol propionate, fluocinonide). But they are available under prescription and should be taken only after consulting a dermatologist.
