Belly button rash fungus

by jazzyjoc, Mar 17, 2009 08:03PM
I have had this rash in my belly button for a little over a month, it started out as a lot of small red bumps in and around my belly button and then changed to this raised purplish bumpy area that secretes this liquid (it doesnt smell and is minimally sticky) the liquid dries on my belly button and it itches extremely bad. I have been putting hydrocortisone and nystatin on it almost the entire time I have had the rash (giving myself a break from the hydrocortisone every 14 days) I have also been taking prednisone and ketoconazole for the past two weeks. At first it seemed to be helping but now it itches more that ever and has become painful.

Hi,

The presence of discharge and rash suggests an infection. Try to avoid putting any other medication especially if the lesion does not respond to these medicines to prevent further harm or resistance. Have this evaluated further by your doctor for proper management. A culture or skin scraping may be obtained and evaluated under the microscope for proper diagnosis. It is important to keep the area clean and dry.

Take care and keep us posted.
