As of late, i've seriously considered getting this checked by a dermatologist and hopefully removed. My concern is that treating this birthmark with a laser will possibly cause damage to this highly sensitive part of the body. Another concern of mine is that once treated, it will return.
Birthmarks may be a plain hyperpigmentation as in the case of nevus or moles. They can be more complicated structures like vascular birthmarks, an example of which is a hemangioma. They may be malformations of lymphatics and arteries.
I suggest , that you have this checked by your dermatologist. There are dermatologists with a good experience on birthmark removal. For some, this may require referral to a cosmetic surgeon. In you case, however the risk and benefits have to be weighed.
What is the size of the birthmark? Does it cover or affect a large area of your penis?
I can not really say if laser therapy is effective in treating genital birthmarks. Although at this point, I feel that this does not require further intervention. Unless , this condition is really large or if the area changes in appearance (eg enlarges, becomes itchy or painful) then removal may be considered.
Nevertheless, I understand your concern. Ask your physician about this. Do keep us posted regarding his/her advice.
the birthmark is not very large, maybe the size of an eraser on a regular #2 pencil, or better yet, the head of a regular push pin. Just a small round birthmark, it isn't raised, nothing abnormal looking, slightly darker than the surrounding skin. It does not cover a large area at all, but its pretty obvious.
From my research, and subsequent self diagnosis, I believe this birthmark is simply a case of hyperpigmentation.
