Bruise turned into rash

I had blood draw a little over a week ago. The site turned into a large dark bruise approx. 3 inches across. The bruise turned to the characteristic yellow a few days ago, and was almost completely gone. Today, I noticed itching where the bruise had been, and I now have small raised itchy bumps exactly where the bruise was. I put cortisone cream on the rash; however, it burned quite a bit, and the itching is pretty intense. What would cause a bruise to turn into a rash when it heals?

I found this on the subject:::

Also known as contusion or hematoma, a bruise is a sector of skin discoloration which appears when small blood vessels crack and spread their contents into the mild tissue underneath the skin. If a bruise is not taken care of, it can develop into a rash. A rash, on the other hand, includes changes in the color or structure of your skin. This is why you have to take care of your skin, specially when you obtain a bruise from falls, sports contusions, or car mishaps, in order to prevent it from turning into a rash. Here are some tips that will help you keep your bruises under control:
Do not attempt to drain the contusion with a needle.
Do not continue to stress the painful, bruised part of your body with activities like running and playing.
Most of all, do not ignore the pain or swelling.
Consult with your doctor immediately when you feel pain or you observe swelling in your broken skin.

If you do not take care of your bruise properly, it will surely turn into a rash. Once that happens, additional care and attention must be applied to ensure that you remain safe and well throughout the healing process. Here are some more directions to facilitate faster healing of your bruises that turn into rashes:
Proper hygiene plays a big part in preventing your rashes from spreading in other areas of your body.
Shower all the time and do not use any product that is not recommended by your dermatologist.
Using a non-recommended products may irritate your rash even more and pain will be even harder for you to bear.
Learn meditation exercises such as yoga or tai chi so that you can control the rashes from spreading.

Remember, stress aggravates many rashes, including eczema, psoriasis, and seborrheic dermatitis, so keep yourself relax and focus. Take care of your well-being and make the attainment of a balanced mind and body your ultimate goal in life.

Like most of you I too have a bruised that turned into a rash. I fell down about 5 or six stairs, and I had a huge bruise on my right outer thigh circling under my butt, it was huge. And a small one on my left leg. The one on the right swelled up immediately and ached. I couldn't even lay on that side in bed. It took about two days for the bruise to come out, but I knew it was coming because of the swelling and deep pain. The left side didn't really hurt and the bruise appeared pretty fast. But on the right side the bruise got bigger and darker every day. If you ran you hand over it you could feel the swelling. After about 5 days the pain went away but the bruise continued to get darker and more disgusting looking. After about 2 weeks it finally started fading and turning green and yellow, and then it went away. But left a nasty itchy rash in its place. But the bruise on the left side went away fast, never swelled, and didn't leave a nasty itchy rash.

Unlike most of you, I am only 22. I bruise frequently bc I am very clumsy, and I have never had this happened or seen this. But I know for sure that the rash is linked to deep trauma bruises since this is the worst bruise I've had and the only one that has gotten this rash. Especially since the smaller bruise that caused no problems didn't get the same rash.

I am just so confused on how this has no specific diagnosis?? What is it that causes your skin to react after having a deep trauma resulting in a deep bruise?

I commented last week about the rash after the bruise.  It bothered me all week.  It was still very bad this morning.  My daughter suggested to try putting EMU OIL on it.  I applied it over an hour ago and the rash is 75% gone.  It's unbelievable.  I'll update in a few days to let you know what happens.  I'll keep applying it.

I have the exact same thing.  A bruise was formed below a puncture site on my groin where the doctor put in a wire to do an embolization.  The bruise which ran across my upper leg has now almost disappeared and a rash has taken it's place.  I think it has occurred because it's a traumatized area and is weakened. I often get rashes on old scar sites and that's how my doctor explained it. I amusing this is the case with the bruise site as well.  I, too, am very susceptible to rashes and have been since birth.

I have this as well. Every time I get a bruise, a hive or two will appear right on top of it. I see you replied to this post several years ago. Have you learned anything new since? (i have stage 1 sarcodosis as well, if that means anything)
Any information would be useful.
Thank you.

I have this problem now. I am curious because I think it might be a Nickle allergy. Ask your patient if they have allergic reactions to fake Jewelry. This is just a theory as the rash I have is exactly like the rashes I get from wearing fake jewelry. I can wear the fake stuff for a short time but not a long time as the longer it sits against my skin, the more likely I am to rash.

Blood contains minerals and even metals. My theory is that when we get a cut, it does not cause the rash because the blood does not sit long enough against the skin to cause an allergic reaction, however when we get a deep bruise the blood pools for a lengthy time near the skin allowing the allergy to come out. (obviously there is not a ton of metal in our blood but as it dissipates, I must imagine the metals are the last to disperse leaving them near to the skin and causing the rash)

This is obviously just a theory but I would like to know what you think of this. I would also like to know if the people who get rashes regularly from bruises have an allergic reaction to metals.

I am allergic to most metals! As far as the "blood allergy" theory goes, this makes sense to me.
I'm allergic to metals too and especially nickel (and I'm low on vitamin D)
