I can rule out your thoughts of it being caused by methanphetamines .... I have NEVER done drugs. I have never done anything illegal and I don't drink much or often. This has been happening for 10 years longer than I've been in pain clinic. I don't know where your thought process originated, but there has to be another common denominator for all of us that have this... I'm not sure what yet but we will figure it out...
For most of you if you have what you're describing as crystals/stones biopsied the lab can confirm the osteoma cutis diagnosis. The calcifications are classified as bone although they form in the dermis and are not near a bone.
I am 59 and have suffered with a very similar problem. It has spread since the initial very sore red lump on the upper chin under my lip. This cleared after months and now is in three spots of the chin that are painful and hard to hide.
I describe it as `tiny shards of glass`. Using a mirror outside in the sun once to look at them I literally saw a prism-like spectrum of colors on a tiny piece of this whatever it is. The skin oozes clear fluid which hardens shiny forming deep vertical and horizontal lines, mostly at a slight angle, making the patches appear very wrinkled, but it happened within a couple of days, not years. The dermatologist wouldn't let me tell him anything, said `this should take care of the crusts` and gave me Bactroban.
This has made me miserable.
Anything sound familiar to anyone?
So does this mean the drug Naproxen could alleviate symptoms as well? It won't hurt to take a small dose. I am going to experiment with both this and the anti-fungal route and see what we see.
they usually form after prolonged use of methamphetamines, if you take a break, it should clear up. Try not to use your needles, save them for your drugs instead. Keep those tips clean.
I recently was told of crystalline globs that can form under the skin, and when they break through they can be removed but if not, the doctor won't remove them due to risk of infection. The doctor didn't know of a cause, although he said it might be more common in diabetics. They occur in my eyelids and when they break through, they scratch my eyes. Very painful. The treatment so far has been heat pack for 5 minutes in morning and evening, to help break down the crystal structure, and daily eye drops. He said they normally break down and get reabsorbed or whatever, but that process could be impaired in a diabetic. Interesting condition. Maybe we can name it for the medical community, since we seem to know more about it than they do.
