I am 31. When I was around 20, I began getting very painfulPainful menstrual periods boil-like sores around my pubicPubic lice hair, under breasts, and in the armpitsArmpit lump. They were singular spotsBirthmarks - pigmented Liver spots Measles, koplik spots - close-up Mongolian blue spots, not clustersCluster headaches, usually the size of a pinky nail, beginning as a painfulPainful menstrual periods bump then finally rupturing days or a week later. They leave awful purple scars. I was told later that I had Hidradenitis Suppurativa and found out that my dad and sister also have it. Then I contracted genital herpes about 7 years ago. It was impossible for me to tell if I was having an outbreak of herpes or a flare-up from the HS. I have been told by a doctor that I am asymptomatic for herpes, but that the HS most likely increased my vulnerability to contracting the herpes because of the open sores.
My question is this: does it matter if my sores are the HS? Or am I shedding just as much of the herpes virus through the HS sores as I would in an "outbreak?" Also, have there been any strides in HS research (although it's an orphan illness it seems) to combat these flare-ups? It's very hard to tell a sexual partner that you're asymptomatic for herpes while you have obvious sores in the genital region! (I've been on acyclovir 800mg/day, for years.)
