versicolor on my back and under my breasts. This is ongoing and I have had recurrences of this for about 10 years. It started just a few dots under my breasts, but in the past couple years I am now getting it all over my back. I have been treating with a 1% anti-fungal cream and it goes away for about week, but always comes back. This week I noticed what I believe to be a swollen
Suboccipital lymph node on the right side (back of neck). I notice no dandruff or other scalp/itching issues, but do have one large pimple at the base of my hairline that I noticed the other day. I have slightly more post-nasal drip than normal and have been more tired than usual, but otherwise feel fine (no fever or cold symptoms). I have been extremely stressed lately, and have had a lot of anxiety, evidenced because I am chewing the inside of my mouth and clenching my teeth. From what I have read so far, it would seem all of these symptoms are probably related, and stress is likely the root cause.
How long should I wait before seeing my primary? Do I even need to pay him a visit? If I do, should I ask him for a referral to a specialist/dermatologist. My primary is a very thorough and kind doctor, I just don't want to wast his time if these things will clear up on their own.
Hello,
From the symptoms it can be folliculitis, boils or a cyst. This may be the cause of the swollen lymph node also. Keep the area clean and apply some topical antiseptics. Also wear loose-fitting cotton clothing and use an antibacterial soap or mild soap like dove. Avoid any kind of cosmetics. Topical antibiotics such as mupirocin or neomycin containing ointment are also useful. In case the symptoms persist then oral antibiotics may be needed.
