Yesterday I sat my 2 1/2 year old down at the dinner table. While dinner was finished I got him out of his high chair and notice a lot of eye lashes had fallen out. Today, at lunch, I notice the same thing. It's not a small amount either, I am kind of worried. Do I need to carry him to the doctor for test and what could be going on? Thanks for any responses!
The loss of eyelashes is completely normal and everybody loses them at some point in time and probably for very different reasons. The different causes can range from anything to constant eye rubbing to an eye infection.
Any type of allergies could cause your eyelashes to come out, especially if your eyes water due to allergies and you rub your eyes forcefully when wiping them. The good part of all of this is that the lashes will grow back.
There are several diseases which can cause your eyelashes to fall out and not grow back. A few of these diseases are Alopecia areata and hypothyroidism .
You could consult the pediatrician if this persists.
