Hi! It's hard to find anyone who understands this issue. I endured excessive facial sweating for 3 yrs & literally missed out on 2 summers because of it! One feels embarrased about sweating which makes you sweat more! I kept going to my doc who helped me not so I started reading about this condition. I was taking effexor, an anti-depressant which I suspected might be some of the problem. I slowly went off this & noticed a huge improvement. After 8 wks of no anti-depressant, I did have to switch to pristiq & was happy that no sweating occurred! Before this I did try accupuncture since I read that excess bodily heat means 'chi' is out of balance. It seemed to help. The other thing I read about was botox injections along the hairline. I didn't try this but watched a tv program about a woman from Btitain whose life was miserable like ours & she tried botox injections & it changed her life! Hope this helps!
Dr. Kaur,
Thank you for your response. I have been examined by two Dermatologists and two general doctors. The exams reveal an overactive symapthic system or as one Dr. put it , some people are warmer than others in the summer or in high temperatures. Not to worry or be very concerned with is the average response to my condiition.
The issue with this condition is that doctors do not have proven treatments for facial sweating.
Other than that i am extremly healthy with blood, ekg tests healthy and
low blood pressure for a 51 year old.
The ETS surgery that you suggest I have looked into and through my research It appears to be a very dangerous operation with unpredicatble side effects.
Example side effects , extreme sweating in other areas and loss of hot or cold sensation in the body. Depression, lack of emotion. Flight or flight response altered. Also the opeation is irreversable.
I am suprised that you suggested it.
The feedback That i am getting from doctors is that this condition is not life threating or serious enough to warrant any medical intervention.
I take valium occasionaly and GLYCOPYRROLATE with some relief.
I still hope that medicine will come up with a safe solution.
Hello,
Excessive sweating is called hyperhydrosis. Excessive sweating in the face can result from an overactive sympathetic nervous system, sometimes due to substance abuse. Mild social stimuli with stress can cause excessive facial sweating which can also involve the scalp and the neck. Excessive facial sweating may become exacerbated during social contacts and other important social activities. This can lead to being self-conscious and having low self-esteem. Endoscopic thoracic sympathicotomy is a very effective way to treat severe facial sweating. Please discuss this option with your doctor.
It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
