I was prescribed Aldara (imiquimod) to get rid of a few perianal HPV warts since cryotherapy was only making it worse. After only about 2 weeks of usage almost all symptoms of the warts were gone however I now have perianal psoriasis in its place. That is one of the side-effects of imiquimod and it mainly strikes people whom are genetically prone to having psoriasis. It is known that an overactive immune system can trigger a site of psoriasis, and imiquimod invokes an immune response to have cytotoxins destroy skin cells.
So now.... retinoid treatments are not helping, and the only other main treatment for psoriasis are corticosteroids which if I'm not mistaken are immunosuppressants lol..... are they not? If I start using those then HPV will form new warts.... on the other hand, it would be a neat experiment.... if there are no new warts, then that's +1 for Graceway Pharmaceuticals who claims they are uncertain if Aldara causes HPV to be killed off completely or only to some extent.
so... what am i doing? pursuing corticosteroids and calcipotriol? or maybe try just calcipotriol on its own to begin with?
