Help! I've lost most of my eyelashes!

by kurlygirl, Apr 27, 2008 02:29PM
Hey,
I'm 14 years old and about 6 months ago I got an eyelash curler. I have been obsessed with it ever since.
But I have a serious problem, I have noticed that when I have put mascara on, THEN use my curler on them, it made my eyelashes start to break off at the place I would curl them. And its not like I'm using the curler once a day, most of the time I would use it 2 or 3 times a day. It would just bother me how short and non-curly they were. So because of all this obsessive curling, mostly all of them have fallen out. And when they did fall out, it happened all at once.
So PLEEAASSEE doctor, how can I safely get them back? Would it be bad for my eyes to get fake eyelashes professionally put on? Is there any solution untill they grow back on their own? How long will it take for them to grow back? Thank you, I really need some help.

Hi,

You should stop using all these products immediately.

Have you consulted a doctor or eye specialist or skin specialist for your complaints?

It would be advisable to consult your doctor for the cause of your symptoms and the furtehr plan of management.

Let us know what your doctor advises and post us about how you are doing.

Regards.

Hi,

At this age, it would not be advisable for you to use cosmetic products too often,as these could cause more damage.

You should avoid pulling out your lashes  - talk to an adult or family member about your symptoms and see a doctor if possible.

Let us know about what the doctor advises.

Keep us posted on how you are doing and if you need any other information.

Regards.

Two years ago, when my daughter was 14, she started pulling at her eyelashes.  The problem was not so bad that I could even notice any missing lashes, but it really bothered her and I was aware that this habit needed attention. So, our general practitioner sent us to a psychiatrist who had 2 sessions with my daughter and me, and then he suggested that she start to take some medication to help ease the urge to pull at the lashes.  My husband and I decided not to do this, as we hate the thought of mind-altering drugs, especially when it didn't seem to be a problem.

My daughter is now 16 and she still complains of the problem, especially when she is stressed out. She just completed a very difficult AP exam and showed me a small area on her upper lashes where she pulled them out. She is frantic and wants drugs.  We did not like the psychiatrist - he offered nothing but drugs, and her problem seems quite minor. He did not indicate that there were any other psychological problems.

I don't want to take my daughter back to the same doctor. Any advise as to how to handle this?  Thank you in advance.

Hi,

You should take her to a skin specialist and ask your GP to refer her to some other psychiatrist if required.

Let us know what the skin specialist suggests.

Post us if you need any other information.

Regards.

I'm 14 and I have trichotillophobia. Its been better for awhile but last night i pulled out a large amount of eyelashes. I've been using this Ardell Lash and Brow Growth Excellerator is this supposed to help and why?
Also I think I have a higher growth rate then most people for hair because it almost never takes a full "21/2 months" to grow back, is this possible since I am young? Thanks
