Itch on Lip

Itch on Lip

About 4-5 years ago I started developing this itch on the left side of my lower lip.  It comes and goes and sometimes lingers for only a little bit and like now it has been bothering me pretty steadily for nearly a month.  I am prone to get a couple cold sores a year so I keep thinking that is what it is (got them in seventh grade from borrowing someones Carmex...idiot), but it doesn't seem to coincide or anything.  There is nothing visible, I don't think, and I have tried about every cold sore medicine out there and all it seemed to do is irritate the area.  Abreva kind of seems to make it feel better which is why I am not convinced it is not some weird prolonged prodrome, but I never remember getting a sore on that spot.  But mostly just the lip balms with an analgesic make it feel better for a few hours but it comes right back.  I have never quite made peace with the fact that I get cold sores and it is starting to have an effect on my mental health to constantly feel contagious.  Any ideas?
