Two weeks ago my groins area started itching and now its become an uncontrollable itch. There are no bumps or redness or even pain just itching. It sometimes itches on my vagina lips but not as much as around my vagina. I'm freaked out and I'm only 15 and scared. What could the problem be .. ? Please help mee ! I don't know what to do. I can't tell my mum because she would kill me and I can't go to the doctor cause I'm broke. Please help me anybody :(

Dr Bhupinder,

There's an itch in my groin area and now there are itches all over my body..
The itch is like turning to dry skin in that area and becoming a rash.
What do I do ? What is it ?
Please help me :(
Thanks.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
The symptoms are suggestive of fungal infection of the groin or tinea cruris which produces unbearable itch. The other possibilities are of contact dermatitis, sweat dermatitis or intertrigo. Wash the area and then dry thoroughly by pat drying, not rubbing. It is important that the skin is not damp because the damp skin is an ideal site for fungi to multiply. Also wear cotton underwears and change them twice a day.

Also apply topical antifungals like Lamisil or Monistat. Severe cases may need oral antifungals for which I suggest you to consult a dermatologist.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
