Jock Itch or other?

Hello,

While on vacation at the beach, towards the latter part of the vacation i started to notice a chaffing type burning/itching in my goin area. I have had this before but usually it goes away after a day or so. This time it continued to get worse through the rest of the vacation. Upont returning home i noticed very red semicirucular ares on either side of my genitals on my inner thighs starting at the crease between the thighs and extending outwards. The rash is red, with small red raised bumps but no blisters or pimples. It is itchy, and moist. I have started to treat it with lotrimin ultra, and keep it dry with gold bond medicated powder. After about 2 days of treatment i noticed 3 or 4 very small whiteheads further down my leg, and even found one on my hand. Upon squeezing them they produce a very small amount of clear fluid.

History, i have ulcerative colitis and have been on prednisone for treatment of that for 7 years, as well as imuran( an immuno suppresive for 1 year)

does this sound like jock itch? systemic candidia? should i let the lotrimin treatment run its two week course?

i have had had no other symptoms that would indidcate and std such as fever, pain or otherwise

Yes, you should continue the Lotrimin for the two weeks.  That's harmless and may help.  This does not sound related to colitis or immunosuppression.  It sounds more garden-variety, after-the-beach kind of irritation.  If it's still there in 2 weeks, you can let a doctor take a look.  But I suggest you leave the whiteheads alone and not squeeze them, since that won;t help and may confuse the issue.

Best.

thank you

i feel that it is probably garden variety as well however the presense of the pimples on my legs, and a couple on my hand with a clear discharge raised a flag in the sexually transmitted realm..so I was hoping to get your input on their appearance in relation to jock itch or other fungal infections

over the past year i have been on alot of antibiotics, although not within the last several months, and actually had a severe case of thrush in my mouth following one of these prescriptions last year at this time

having had colitis for quite a while now i was and am fairly confident that the symptons being presented currently do not appear to be connect with my colitis or immunosuppresion...however my concearn and therefore mention of such treatments was that of possible difficulty in cleaning up any fungal infection within my body, due to the immunosuppresion?
