went from one shade of brown to approximately 3 shades of brown and had become asymmetrical. It is under the breast, so I don't see it often and forgot about getting it checked it had changed approximately 6 months ago. I got a call this week that their were abnormal skin cell growth and that another biopsy would need to be done next week.
Questions: Why would a second biopsy be needed with this type of finding is it to tell if it is cancer or is it because too small of an amount was taken to tell what stage the cancer is in? Is it normal to do a shave biopsy on a melanoma and will it alter the second biopsy since they took a lot of the discoloration and cells away with the first biopsy? Does anyone know what steps are next after the second biopsy?
The shave biopsy would have not been able to get sufficient tissue or cells for a roper detailed histopath examination and a confirmed diagnosis. Another biopsy would be required now, since that the cells have shown abnormal growth.
You should go ahead with the biopsy procedure and discuss the possibilities in detail with your skin specialist.
