Hello,
Symptoms of hypothyroidism are fatigue, depression, weight gain, cold intolerance, dry, coarse hair and skin, constipation ,muscle cramps, decreased concentration, vague aches and pains, menstrual disorders, palpitation and swelling of the legs.
I feel that you should consult a physician and get yourself and your thyroid hormone levels evaluated if you are having any of these symptoms.
I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
Thank you guys so much for taking the time to respond. Your insight is greatly appreciated.
Dr. Kaur, I will definitely try a B complex and hopefully I'll see some changes, and will ask for the RAST test as well. Do you think that the symptoms could be related to the hypothyroidism at all???
SweetChroi, the triggers are hard to identify because the symptoms are so sporadic. I can wake up with a swollen sensation (like this morning), be driving in my car, watching TV, or eating with a friend and my lip will feel like its on fire. I have no idea. Its very difficult.
As a person who suffers from an actual diagnosis of HSV, I know exactly how you feel. However, don't let it get to you. I hide from the world when I get a cold sore. Mine are often stress induced. When you get these swellings and sensations, have you noticed anything that triggers them? Stress, lip trauma, a new chapstick, heat, cold, etc? Something as slight as a light bite to the lips or accidentally knocking yourself in the mouth (I'm a clutz, I do this all the time) can be a trigger.
Since they cultured you and it came up negative, I would not worry. Do not be afraid to kiss someone- the only time you have to worry about being contagious is if you have one of the swellings when you go to kiss someone.
It may be nothing more than stress bumps. I know a few people with similar symptoms that are completely clean and healthy. No need for you to think you might not be.
Carry on with your daily life, and I wouldn't worry about it unless/until pustules develop.
Hope this helps.
Firstly, It can be due to vit B deficiency. Take some vitamin B complex for some days and see if your symptoms improve.
Secondly, it can be due to atopic dermatitis or eczema. Cheilitis(Inflammation of the skin on and around the lips)is often seen in atopic dermatitis. Diagnosed by bld test like RAST. Treatment is by topical steroids or oral therapy of corticosteroids in severe cases. Topical creams like tacrolimus ointment and pimecrolimus cream are also useful.
I suggest you to get it evaluated from a dermatologist.
I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
