Rash below eye

I have had a bright red rash just below my eye for 4 months and nobody seems to know what it is. I was told a virus and was treated with antibiotics and did nothing and another said an allergic reaction, but nothing new in my history of anything different. I have an appt with a Dermatologist, but not until end of the year so just curious of what you might think it could be. I am a 43 year old female. Thank you very much!

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi,

This could be an irritation, allergy, dermatitis, eczema or rosacea. Rosacea is an inflammatory skin disease that causes facial redness. Rosacea affects mostly adults, usually people with fair skin, between the ages of 30 and 60. Left untreated, it tends to be progressive. However, in most people it is cyclic, which means it may flare up for a period of weeks to months and then signs and symptoms lessen for a while before it flares up again. Treatment may dependent on the underlying cause. It would be best to have this evaluated by your doctor for proper management.

Take care and keep us posted.
