Rash in between buttocks

I was diagnosed with a severe case of constipation the other day when I had to go to the hospital emergency room due to stomach pains. Long story short I was prescribed a very strong laxitive based on my condition and I've been having to go to the washroom nonstop. All of the wiping has caused some chafing irritation I guess on my buttocks, not on my actual anus. What is safe to put on the rash to soothe the burn? I have been putting vitamin e oil. Is Vaseline safe?

As long as it's external, I believe vaseline would be safe- it doesn't hurt to call the doctor and ask what they advise though.  I wonder if something like a diaper rash cream could help as well.
