Rash scrotum

For a while I've had this red rash on my scrotum and shaft of my penis and I tried Vaseline, various Hydrocortisone Creams, various moisturizing creams and nothing seems to help.  Can anybody recommend something else?  Thank you.

Hi,

You can use the cream but please do not use this without informing your doctor. Steroids have their own side effects and shoud not be used for long. Kind regards.

I have been using Coritzone 10 ointment that is like a combination of  hydrocortisone and vaseline in one.  That seems to be helping. Is that ok?

Hello,
You have to consult your dermatologist for the prescription of steroids because you do not get them over the counter. In the meanwhile, you can apply some calamine lotion at the rash as it will help in soothing the skin.  Also apply plenty of good fragrance free emollients to prevent moisture loss from the skin.

I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and God bless.

Hello,
Since the red rash has been present for quite a long time and it has not caused any itching or irritation so it can be dermatitis or lichen simplex chronicus. Lichen Simplex Chronicus is seen in people with eczema.

It is treated like chronic eczema by decreasing water and soap contact, and applying emollients. Topical steroids are almost always needed to control the symptoms. You can use mild steroid cream like Dermacort and if the symptoms persist then high potency steroids and oral steroids may be needed.
My sincere advice would be to consult a dermatologist to get the diagnosis confirmed. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your dermatologist. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
