Red crusty patch on face

For 2 months I have had what I thought was a zit except it is crusty and oozes.  I've cleaned the area at least twice daily and Oxy medicated pads seem to make it smaller, but it will return and the Oxy stings.  It now feels like a cyst is underneath the skin about the size of a corn kernal.  The skin is a dull red.

I've looked at some pictures online and it does look like Keratoacanthoma or sqaumish cell cancer.  I noticed the pictures of sqaumish cell appeared darker in color.... however, how do I know when is a good time to have it checked out?  Are there other signs I should consider before getting it looked at?

I tan easily so I didn't think skin cancer would be concerning..

I'm 38.  It is on the left side of my chin.  It's sensitive to touch and red-patchy enough to have others think it is a lipstick stain..

Should I see a regular physician or a dermatologist?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi

How old are you?

Where is this bump located?

This may be nodular form of acne which has been infected. Other differentials may be an impetigo. If there are no associated pain and  discoloration seems to be prominent, a skin biopsy may be able to help. I suggest that you refrain from applying any creams and lotions on the area as this may only cause further irritation. Wash the area with a mild cleanser and do not pick on this. Do not exfoliate as breaks on the skin may cause infections. Use sunscreen on the face.

This may be infectious however, if this has been unresponsive to medications and has persisted for quite sometime, a skin biopsy will ascertain its diagnosis.
