For over a year now (more on than off), I"ve had redness and a bit of irritation following the line below my bottom lip. Sometimes feeling flared, mostly on the right side. It comes and goes throughout the day(s). There was a time when I used to use hand sanitizer on my face around my mouth & chin area after a run, swiping it from right to left (I'm right handed), I was told it would dry out sweat but instead I think I've damaged my skin and caused this irritation. It seems as if the bottom of my mouth is extemely sensitive to everything and anything! At times even wiping my mouth with a paper napkin with irritate it! And this redness will not go away! I've heard all about B complex vit.. and hydration, etc. but I've tried everything. My derm said it looks like a miild form of perioral dermititas but this diagnosis came about when I broke out using the handsanitizer (funny, I use it to preven break out but instead it gave me a break out). I'm soo confused, going out of my mind and trying to figure out what to do! Any suggestions or info anyone can give me would be very much appreciated! Not sure if this is an allergic reaction to something else (dust mite, etc.) or did I ruin the layer of my skin? Or what!?
It can be due to lip licker’s dermatitis. Treatment consists of oral antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs. A mild soap or soap substitute, such as Dove or Cetaphil should be used for washing. Scrubbing should be avoided.
If the symptoms are not controlled by topical antibiotics, then oral antibiotics may be needed. Please consult your dermatologist and discuss this with him.
It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Hi, could this result from drooling? I"m wondering if I"m drooling in my sleep a bit. I lay on my right side when falling asleep and this irritation and redness is more so on the right side of my mouth. I have tried cetaphil and I've been avoiding most of my facial creams in that area of my face. Lately, I've been using triple-ointment just a dab in that area and it seems to help a little but it hasnt cleared up completely. The worst is the sensitivity/irritation. That area of my mouth is very sensitive, that when I wipe with a napkin it feels as if I'm opening up a wound. Thanks for your feedback, I really appreciate it!
