Scratched mole

My child had a brown 0.3x0.3 mole on the back, and I noticed that he was trying to scratch it off about a month ago. It became crusty and fell off. There is a discolored (white), smooth spot about 1x1 cm on that place. I've made an appointment to see the dermatologist, but the closest I could get is in August. Is it something I have to worry about? Please, help.
Concerned mom.

Hi

Firstly , we have to ascertain if it was indeed a mole as this may not be the case. Also, this white discoloration may be a lichenified skin (thickened skin) or it may be a scar from the sloughed "mole".

This does not sound like something you need to be very worried about. If there is no associated bleeding or discharge ,then let us just wait for the assessment of your physician. Just make sure your child does not scratch or pick on the area. Do not apply any creams and lotions until this has been thoroughly evaluated.
