Sebborheic Dermatitis

Sebborheic Dermatitis

I have been diagnosed with sebborheic dermatitis because of red rashes on my face with flakes and flakes inside my ears ;-(.. My latest derma prescribed Triamcinolone lotion - it easily subsides the red on my face but since this is steroid-based, I was advised to apply it twice a day for two weeks and when it recurred twice a day for three weeks. But only a week of from the lotion, seb derm seems to be back again... ;-(

Can you suggest a more effective medicine that would make me rest from seb derm longer without the harmful effects of steroids???

Your inputs will be highly appreciated. :-)

Hi

Seborrheic dermatitis has been associated with fungal organisms and antifungal agents have recently been added in treating seborrheic dermatitis. The exact cause of this skin condition is not known weather and stress appear to play a role here. Good hygiene is primarily important here. The management of seborrheic dermatitis may differ per location affected .For the face " Involved areas of the face may be washed frequently with shampoos that are effective against seborrhea ... Alternatively, ketoconazole cream, 2 percent, may be applied once or twice daily to affected areas. Often, 1 percent hydrocortisone cream will be added once or twice daily to affected areas and will aid with resolution of erythema and itching. Sodium sulfacetamide, 10 percent lotion, is also an effective topical agent for seborrheic dermatitis."

Discuss this with your dermatologist. There is no single effective way of treating seborrheic dermatitis as it is a chronic skin condition which may resolve and recur given specific triggers.
