Steroid Rosacea

I suffer from eczema on my face and about four years ago I developed steroid rosacea. Since then I have not used steroids and was told by my dermatologist that the steroid rosacea would go away on it's own. Two years later it went away, as well as my blepharitis at the same time. I was 25 at the time everything cleared. I am also of south asian descent. One year later the symptoms of the rosacea and blepharitis re-appeared. My MD now has me on 100 doxy and metro gel.  Three months into the treatment I have noticed no improvement, and have been told by my MD that I will be on doxy for at least a year. My skin is reddened, sensative and it burns. My skin flushing has also come back. I thought that once staroid rosacea dissapears it shouldn't come back. I don't think I can deal with this much longer.

Thanks

Hi,

You would still need to reconsult your doctor about the associated symptoms you are having and to rule out a bacterial or fungal infection.

You could take some oral antihistamine or antiallergic medications like loratadine or cetrizine and see if it helps with your symptoms. Apply calamine lotion at the site of the lesions to help soothe the itching.

Thanks for you post. Do you think that the blepharitis symptoms are in any way associated with the steroid rosacea? And do you think it should have been treated by now. I am so frustrated and my MD basically said it takes a long time to heal. It has almost been 4 months since I started doxy and I feel that my eye symptoms have gotten worse and I do excellent lid hygeine. I'm hoping things get worse before they start to get better. Also will the redness and flushing subside? And I'm glad that you mentioned a bacterial/fungal infection as I have always wondered about that. I'm hoping that this will dissapear once and for all!

Hi,

Like i said in my previous post it would be best to reconsult with your doctor about the symptoms you are having and about them persisting for so long.

It would be advisable to get a repeat clinical examination done and if you are still not satisfied you could take a second opinion.

Let us know about how you are doing now and if you have any other doubts.

Regards.
