My husband developed a deep bruise on his left shin about a month ago. It seemed to heal, though some soreness remained. Last week, a lesion of sorts appeared on that leg after a couple of days of itching. The spot continued to grow and there was little relief of itching with cortisone creams, etc. He saw a doctor on Tuesday who said possible vasculitis, but couldn't be sure. Prescribed a steroid cream and compression socks. Yesterday morning, he woke to the rash considerably larger, darker red, more itchiness and some spreading to the other ankle and shin. He ceased the compression and went back to the doctor yesterday afternoon. Doctor still believed vasculitis, but still couldn't be sure, suggested continued compression/steroid cream. He woke up this morning with rash now spread to right thigh, abdomen and underarms with even more redness and discoloration to the original lesion. Doctor ordered blood work, we don't have results yet, but has since prescribed prednisone and discontinued use of the cream. After initial oral dose of prednisone this morning, he developed more intense itching and rash has now spread to the other thigh. Schamberg's was suggested and possible food allergy, but we are very used to food allergies as both of our kids and myself have them and this looks nothing like food allergies. HELP! The doctor said he won't see him again until Tuesday but I'm concerned if it could be a reaction to the steroid on top of the rash he already had.
