TO: BhumikaMD (inaccurate information?)

Hello, I have a concern with some of the answers you have given.  I respect you and respect your knowledge but have noticed some of the input you have given on Fordyce's condition and it doesn't seem accurate.

I have fordyce's on my lips and you have an answer that suggests that sun exposure can cause this - this is frankly not true.  And I have gone to other doctors/dermatologists and they have said that the sun has nothing to do with fordyce's.

You gave the exact same answer for fordyce's that you gave for Cheilitis-
here is the site:http://www.justanswer.com/questions/1pzot-gums-teeth-lips-always-feel-numb

then you turned it around and said it about fordyce's
here:http://www.medhelp.org/posts/show/581970?personal_page_id=100081

From my research and visits to the doctor - fordyce's has nothing to do with the sun or a vitamin deficiency.  It is just a normal thing that happens to people.

Please, if you can respond and acknowledge that the input you had given on fordyce's perhaps could be inaccurate.  I live in a very sunny area and don't want to be obsessing thinking the sun may make them worse, when I don't believe they do.

Sincerely,
Todd

Hi,

Well i appreciate your request for clarification. I am sorry i was not able to respond earlier. I think you have misunderstood my posts.

Let me explain - from the picture you uploaded i said that such lesions could be due to multiple causes including fordyce, vitamin deficiencies, sun damage etc. That these conditions are linked is not what i meant.

Also fordyce does not need to be treated. But if this is any of the other conditions then avoiding sun exposure and taking a multivitamin would obviously help.

That is why i wanted you to get it checked clinically by your physician to arrive at a confirmed diagnosis.

The measures i told you were general self care tips before you see your doctor and would help with your symptoms.

In any case using a good sun screen and avoiding the sun if possible is in general good for your skin and prevents signs of early ageing (aging), skin damage and other sun related skin damage.

Do not hesitate to get back to me if you have any other queries.

Thank you very much.  If there is a way to delete this I will, because you completely answered me at the other site.

THank you for being patient with me.

Sincerely,
Todd
