My 10 year old daughter was diagnosed with Vitiligo at the age of 4. We noticed the discoloration and depression in the lateral aspect of her right proximal thigh and right buttock. We faithfully followed the doctor's treatment plan and within a year of the diagnosis, she was rediagnosed with Morphea due to localization of the hyperpigmented patch
. However, the right proximal thigh and buttock is MORE depressed than her left proximal thigh and buttock. We would like to know what is causing the loss of the subcutaneous tissue and what are some possible treatments?
It would be best to consult a skin specialist and decide about the plan of management in your grandson's case according to the sites of involvement and extent of involvement.
'The main goal of treating vitiligo is to improve appearance. Therapy for vitiligo takes a long time—it usually must be continued for 6 to 18 months.
Current treatment options for vitiligo include medical - topical steroid therapy , oral and topical psoralen photochemotherapy and depigmentation using hydroquinone; surgical-autologous skin grafts
vitiligo is rather triciky and chronic skin conditon. It is difficult to treat this skin condition because of the fact that its real causes are not fully know to any dermatologist.
Furthermore as written on http://www.vitiligoguide.com/vitiligo-cure/ that no one can halt or stop this skin condition. Mean no treatment or medicine can cure root causes of this pigmentation
