Wart or Something Else

About 5 weeks ago I had vaginal intercourse with a girl.  I noticed a small growth 5mm on my scrotum recently.  It is located at the side of the scrotum near but above the base.  On recollection I do not see how this part of my scrotum could have come into contact with this girls skin.  Having visited my GP he informed me that it was a genitl wart.  It is not round but thin and protruding.  He applied histofreeze to it. It is now white in colour two days later and a little sore.
My question is, is this wart, if not what else could it be- a skin tag on te scrotum? how common would it be to get one on its own, could more arise yet and what are the chances of passing it onto someone else, I'm very concerned about this.  Also if it is a wart does the virus eave the system as some recent studies appear to suggest.  Finally if it is a wart do they occur at point of contact or in the general area?
MAny thanks

Thank you Dr Rockoff for your response. To clarify, the protrusion initally appeared like a flake of skin but then I picked at it, and it bled.  It was thin in appearance not round, not cauliflower.  It was about 2mm at the base, its width was less than its height about 1:2 ratio and it was about 4-5mm high from the base.  It did turn white after freezing and has disappeared now in 5 days.  However the area is a little sore when it rubs against my clothing.  I will see a specialist as you recommended.  It appeared on its own.  The area is red around there with some tingling.
Is your diagnosis the same or perhaps different? Will chances of transmission diminsh over time?

MAny thanks again for your advice, much appreciated

I can't tell from your description whether this was a wart, or whether it was just a piece of skin.  Even if it was a wart, it most likely had nothing to do with the episode of intercourse you're talking about, since warts can take months or years to appear.  But the first thing is to get a proper diagnosis, so you should see a specialist min skin or sexually transmitted diseases.  Genital warts mostly occur on the penile shaft, not the scrotum.

Best.
