Hello,

Paronychia is a soft tissue infection around a fingernail. It is of two types:acute and chronic. It results from a breakdown of the protective barrier between the nail and the nail fold.Symptoms include swollen, erythematous, and tender nail folds, thickened and discolored nail plates and separation of the nail folds from the nail plate,

Diagnosed by gram staining and KOH wet mounts from the skin and nail scrapings.

Treatment includes warm water soaks of the affected finger 3-4 times per day, oral antibiotics, topical antifungals and surgical intervention in more severe cases.

I hope that helps. Please do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional queries. Kind regards.
