What is it?

I just noticed that I have lots of very small, grit-sized bumps under the skin on both my hands. There is no pain, no swelling, no redness, no sensation at all, and they are not noticeable except to the touch. It feels like sand is trapped under the skin. Do you have any idea what it could be?

Hello,
It is very less likely for calcium deposits to present as nodules under the skin of hand. However to confirm the diagnosis, best would be to get a biopsy skin done from a dermatologist as it will clear the diagnosis.
It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

Thank you for your post and taking the time to respond. I have seen one physician who doesn't know what it is and pretty much dismissed it as nothing significant. That may be the case and I hope it is. I don't use a lot hand cream but do use some. However, it feels deeper than pores. I wonder if it could be calcium deposits from taking too many supplements? I've been asked to take 1500 mg of calcium. That seem like a lot to ask my body to absorb. I am going to see a dermatologist. I really appreciate your caring enough to respond. In these times of emotional disconnect, it is affirming that man's humanity is still intact.

Hello,
These small bumps can be due to clogged pores or small cysts. Exfoliation, intensive moisturizing creams, creams and lotions containing alpha hydroxy acids are useful. If the symptoms persist then the possibility of cysts need to be ruled out.
