What's wrong with my scalp/hair?

What's wrong with my scalp/hair?

Over the past two years, I feel like my hair has gotten thinner and that I've had significantly more hair fall. I'm a sixteen year old South Asian girl. My hair is naturally oily but I've never bought shampoos or conditioners to deal with that specifically. I never put any kind of dryer to my hair, it's always toweled and left to dry on its own. I've also never dyed my hair or done any type of damaging styling to it.

The hair loss seems to be the worst around the part, especially near the crown (but this might be an illusion since the hair is split in different directions there).

My scalp doesn't itch at all, but if I do scratch it with my fingernails, I turn up with a lot of stickyish white goop. This doesn't seem noticeable when examining the scalp, only when I get my nails or a harsh brush involved. Is it shampoo build up or dandruff and how do I get rid of it?

My dad is balding but I know balding is an x-linked recessive trait and no one of my mom's side has had it for three generations (including the guys) so it's not a problem with that, right?

Also my mom switched up the shampoos a few years ago; from generic to organic? Could THAT have had a negative impact?

I'm at a loss of what to do here. I switch shampoos frequently to see if anything helps, but to no avail. Should I consult someone?

Hello,
For the hair fall, causes could be due to stress, fungal infections, alopecia aereata, hormonal imbalance (overproduction of dihydrotestosterone and thyroid hormones irregularities),malnutrition, telogen effluvium and sebum plugs on skin.

I would suggest you to consult a dermatologist and get these possibilities evaluated. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
