Hello,
Herpes simplex virus-1 causing cold sores can spread if a person touches the cold sore and then touches a mucous membrane or an area of the skin with a cut on it. Mucous membranes are the moist, protective linings made of tissue that are found in certain areas of your body like your nose, eyes, mouth, and vagina.
I hope it helps. Take care and regards.

Hello,
It looks like you touched your face after touching the cold sore. It is especially important to avoid touching your face and eyes after you touch your sores and do not  use any creams or ointments on sores unless prescribed by your healthcare provider.

You may need oral antiviral drugs for which you need to consult your dermatologist.
I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
