cortizone shot

by brykia, Apr 03, 2009 11:36AM
I had a cortizone shot in my chin & it has caused a huge dent in my skin & discoloration. It made me feel better to read the comments on this site from Sarah who also had this problem. I see her problem occured in 2002-i'm wondering if all is clear w/hers. It is so upsetting that this has happened. I have been going to my dermatologist since 1997. I have always had cystic acne. I've found that microderms & chemical peals help keep outbreaks to a minimum, but they still happen. I've had injections in the past, never has anything like this happened. I had a mild chemical peal before the injection & used retina a on the area of the cyst prior to the peal. Could this have made it worse? I think the estation even gave me 2 shots of cortizon! She told she doesn't remember giving me any shots of it, that it is not listed on my chart, but she definately did. If she gave me 2 Does this mean it will take longer to heal? Will it heal?!It has been a month since this has happened & it is hard to look at my face because this hole & discolorization is all I see. I know it sounds vain, but it is my face.  I am worried about the effect the sun will have on it. Can you recommend a sunscreen with a hint of make up in it that I can reapply every 2 hours- that is what my dermatologist office suggested. I'm going away & the weather will be hot. Should I have other dermatologists look at my face for another opinion, or am I wasting my time? I went back to my dermatologist office & was told it will take at least 6 months for this to go away, but the estation who administered the shot & the peal assured me it would. She told me to come back in after my trip-it will be 2 months since the injection. Will a microderm or mild beta peal help the healing process...help the discoloration fade more quickly? She also suggested I use a bleaching cream on the discolored areas-that I should start 1x a day & work up to 2x a day if my skin can tollerate it. Any thoughts on this?
They gave me samples of aclaro (hydroquinone USP 4%-bioadhesive emulsion). I have an opened sample of lustra (hydroquinone USB4%), any difference in these products?

The emails offered on this forum have given me hope. I'd like to reach out to Sarah & others who have had this problem. Your site was the first I pulled up & Sarah's letter could have been written by me- same area, everything. It is comforting to know others have been thru this & have turned out ok.
