do i tan too much?

by medicgirl2005, Sep 03, 2007 07:10PM
I tan a few times a week... maybe 3, and i have been noticing alot in the 2 months that i am getting white blotches all over my back and the are starting to get on my arms and i have a couple on my chest. They aren't large the are maybe 1/2 in. but they are everywhere. I have never had this problem befor and i am nervous because i will be getting married next may and do not want to have this problem. I stopped tanning for a little over a month... as soon as i started noticing them, and they were still there so i started tanning again...i tanned 3 times in the course of a week, and now they are even worse. what can i do?

go see your doctor, there are a bunch of reasons to get non-tanning spots all over your body.

some possibilities could be pityriasis rosea, syphilis, tinea corporis (ringworm - body fungus), seborrheic dermatitis, acute psoriasis, and tinea versicolor.

you need an antifungal treatment. it sounds like tinea versicolor. see a dermatologist

Tinea versicolor often starts in the back and works its way to the front and arms, making a pattern that's sometimes considered to look like a "christmas tree".  the patches are oval, offset at a diagonal, and have some scaling at the edge.  There's stuff that can be done about it!
