erythema multiforme in 2 y/o

by amanda3412, Oct 05, 2009 09:30PM
My 2 y/o son has been diagnosed with erythema multiforme...a red, raised rash over his entire body, excluding his back and chest. The rash was very unusual, and changed location every 24 hours, lasting a total of 7 weeks. It did not itch and did not respond to benadryl. I say all of this, because we went to 5 doctors total, all unsure of the diagnosis...and finally he was treated with oral acyclovir and the rash resolved. Therefore, I should assume it is herpes-associated, right? My question is for anyone who may be familiar with this condition, which I read can apparently be chronic...How long can I expect that he will have this reaction? Will he eventually outgrow it? Any advice to give?

Thanks from a very worried mom.
