help please

I have seen mentioned in many answers that jock itch is no indication of any underlying immune problem.  Why do many web sites that talk about jock itch say that it may in fact be do to a weakened immune system.  I have a nagging case of jock itch, which has been on and off for about a month, and has now seemed to spread to my anus area.  Thank you in advance for your answer.

Hi,

Jock itch, also known as tinea cruris, is a fungal infection of the skin in the groin. The warm, moist environment is the perfect place for the fungus to grow. Differentials include intertrigo,  which is a red, macerated rash at the groin fold not caused by a fungus more commonly seen many times in obese patients and caused by moist skin rubbing against moist skin. The other condition that mimics tinea cruris is called erythrasma which is a bacterial infection that affects the groin and advances down the inner thigh similar to tinea cruris. The rash of erythrasma is flat and more brown than red throughout the affected area and does not have any scale or blisters.

People taking broad-spectrum antibiotics or wit hdiabetes, which may cause weakened immune system as a response to the antibiotic or to the underlying disease are more at risk to develop the rash. Fungal infection generally responds to medications but it takes a long time before it completely cures. It is important to continue with the treatment 2 weeks even if it has already cleared up to be sure that the offending organisms is gone.
Keep the area clean and dry. Take care and keep us posted.
