is it eczema?

My healthy 5 year old grandson, about one year ago, developed red slightly raised, not very moist looking, but not dry or scaly, patches around his chin smf below his nose.  But NEVER itchy.  The dermatologist says it is eczema and we went along with that.  He has gone through tons of ointments.  For the last few months it  has just been a minor but consistent few small areas.  Never goes away, has not flared up. We continue to use the latest lotion but the doctor warned us to not use it frequently because it could thin his skin?  Yet we end up using it every night because the rash is always there.  Then a routine 5 year old check up showed allergies via blood work to milk and wheat.   I finally researched eczema and keep reading about it itches?????  I tried to cross reference food allergies and eczema and again so much mention of itching, developing the reaction when a few months old, out growing it by age 2 - 3!!!!!  Does my grandson even have eczema???   It doesn't itch, and started at age 4???

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
Eczema is characterised by red, dry patches which are itchy. If the rash is non itchy then the diagnosis needs to be revised. It looks like some sort f dermatitis or seborrheic dermatitis. The creams that you are talking about are topical steroids and they should be used minimally because they can thin the skin and cause increased fragility. Also they have to be tapered off. I suggest a dermatologist’s examination as it is very difficult to confirm a diagnosis without examination.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

my daughter always had/has issues with that. taking 3/6/9/ omegas, Fish/flaxseed oil in capsals. Have always worked for what your describing, and yould could also try plain old zinc oxide, white ointment- over the counter.
hope it helps
