navel pain and discharges

by mark_tryke, Jun 24, 2009 07:59AM
i want to ask question about my navel issues. i experienced minimal pain on ny navel whenever i sit down or stretch my body. After 4 days of the pain experience, i noticed some pink to dark red discharges (i think it is sort of blood) on my navel. Then 3 days after that i experienced the discharges i went to a physician. she prescribed me antibiotics  Enhamox (Co-amoxiclav) BID for 10 days. She advised me to clean the area with hydrogen peroxide and apply the gentamycin cream she prescribed to me. til now, 5 days of doing what she prescribed, my navel problem is still there..what would i do?? and addition, when i consulted the doctor, she asjed me if i have a fever at that time. then i said no. but in the present, i develop fever for 2 days of occurence. please help me..

I am sorry that you still have the problem, presumably the antibiotic not being effective.Sometimes anerobic organisms are responsible.A course of metronidazole ,Flagyl400mg three times a day for 5 days as prescribed by the physician, with alcohol abstinence during treatment would help.Do consult and best to get a surgical opinion too.

Commonest is umbilical infections, rare are congental anomalies,ie birth defects. The earlier ones can be easily be treated like in your case, but the later ones may need surgery to prevent recurrence.

Adult presentations are extremely rare. We report the case of a 44-year-old man with a patent omphalomesenteric duct (POMD). He was admitted with a foul-smelling discharge from the umbilicus. Laparoscopic resection of patent omphalomesenteric duct in an adult
