Herpes (not) Everywhere?

Thanks for your help.

1) I get little "paper cuts" in various locations. Example, center of my bottom lip, left side of my bottom lip, both nostrils, knuckle of rt and lft pinky (approx 3mm, always in same place, bleeds occasionally), under fingernails on both hands (thumbs and index fingers, middle finger left hand). Amoxicillin for 7 days, Lamisil for 30 days (foot fungus), but no change with "cuts". Hands are constantly stinging, especially when washed. Cuts under my fingernails are especially painful when with liquids and temperature (cold/hot). Also burn/itch. Itching under my thumb nail intense that I wake from sleep. Cuticles both thumbs "burn". Pain/cuts/itching travels place to place on hands. Always somewhere. Suggestions?

2) Also "sore spots" on roof of mouth (red swollen lump in center behind "eyeteeth", soreness but nothing visible at left), sore spots various places on tongue (distinct pain, but nothing visible). Inside of top lip feels "pinched" and heavy, nothing visible. "Prickly" feeling under bottom lip. Symptoms also intermintant and transient. But, always somewhere. Feels like a continuous loop or cycle. Been going on more than a year. FYI- locations were not involved simultaneously. New locations joined in cycle over time. Any suggestions?

3) Itching/burning "cycle" in lower extremities: lower back, rt buttocks, rt posterior fold, and rt posterior thigh. Same pain/itching in pubic mound, rt labia minora/vestibule (redness), and lft side of vagina. Visible "paper cut" at lft of vagina only once (2mm). Then only pain/itching. Same transient cycle including pain in both hamstrings.

No sexual relations for more than a year, tested negative for HSV 1 & 2 (antibody) in May ‘07. Negative HIV. Could HSV results be "false negative"? Seems illogical to have symptoms for a year, in multiple sites, and get a "false negative" result.

PCP, gynecologist, and dermatologist are all stumped.

Please help. Thanks.

I've had the same problem intermittent zit like bumps ,metal taste and feeling in mouth with intermittent small dots lasting 1-2 days also been tested don't belive it to be herpes ,should note though my symptoms have completely disappeared  recommend trying a product called QUICK CLEAR you will have to look it up on the net.Its actually a treatment for herpes that eliminates a wide variety of viruses and fungus as well (also quite cheap).I've been clear for 3-4 months now except for a slight itch after shaving for a few hours, inside of my mouth even ok.
my next plan is to check with my a dermatologist to make sure I'm not contagious with whatever this is that no one wants to admit even exists.

2 days ago I noticed about 10 red little bumps on the shaft and foreskin of my penis.  Maybe one or two being next to eachother but on there own for the most part.  They burned and itched a little but not to bad.  Today for the most part all of the syptoms are gone except for a little redness on a part of the forskin and a very slight uncomfortable feeling.  They did not scab up or pus at all.  I have had un protected sex 4 times in the last 2 weeks.  I have not had an std test yet, but am planning on it due to the fact that this is scarying me.  What are your thought on this, do you think it could be herpes or another STD.  Please let me know asap.

thank you.

Hi guys,
I read this in another post from 2001?----see below--have any of you tried this --has it worked with the itching at least and clearup of hives/clear braile bumps on face?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Don't use soap! Even the best for dry skin- Plain Dove, is too much for your already arrid scrotum. If you have to, and only if you have to use soap when you take a just warm shower, use it sparingly. Avoid your joints, behind knees and elbows. And never in your crotch. Just "wash" them with running water and rinse them well.

When you towel off, don't rub. Dab-off.

Use a low detergent laundry soap. Tide kills me with an terrible itch- clothes bright- nuts bright red. Avoid. Instead I have used Dreft baby clothes soap, and Arm and Hammer with color safe bleach. Top rated and does not leave soap in your underwear that will affect you.

Boxers are better than briefs as they keep you from getting hot, sweaty and itchy. At least go to larger briefs- Let your package dangle.

Most important. Drink lots of water. Glasses and glasses a day. Add Vitamin A (25,000 IU daily for 90 days- then reduce to 15,000 IU daily), E(400 IU daily), Evening Primrose oil (2 a day), Zinc(100mg), and B complex(as directed on label), Kelp(5 a day). I know this sounds like some voodoo "herbal" ****; but it works!. You will notice that your skin clears up in about 5 days. Even your face and other "problem" areas will seem healthier.

Lastly, the only medication I can recommend is Allegra 180's. Your doctor may not yet have heard about taking them in this large a dose; but I could probably dig up the recent study on it. These will keep the itch in check. You can take them daily am/pm; but I find that I like them best when I am expecting a stressful day. I take them the night before, that morning and evening. Metally I feel "in control" Physically, I don't feel the urge to get away and scratch. Your doctor has to write for them; but if you ask to give this a trial, you'll probably get an Ok.

Recap: Water, FILE your clipped nails, NO Hot baths, Cool shorts, mild detergents, Vitamins- get them. It is less money than you've been spending on stuff that hasn't worked anyway.

Lastly break the habit of sitting or laying there and scratching. I used to get in bed and scratch like hell just to get comfortable. The rapid change in body temp from wearing hot shorts to removing them and sliding in between the very cool sheets always made me itch. I believe the rapid cooling shrinks the scrotum so fast it creates hundresds of minor itch sites simultaneously, triggering a habitual scratch session. Get up and do something else. If you are watching TV and feel the urge, go make yourself a cold drink, and a bowl of popcorn. You gotta break the cycle.

Try this. Before bed, shower, dry and put on loose clothing, a robe or just a towel. Don't bundle up and then jump into a cold bed. Cool down, hang loose just before bed so there won't be cold sheets shock.

So now that you have not attached your sack in 5 days, and they are starting to look better, feel soft again. Don't be weak. Instead, reward yourself for making yourself well. Buy a new fishing rod, or wheels for your truck, or a dashmat. Something that you will see/use oten to remind you that you are getting better. Go buy more vitamins, a little pill calendar box will help you remember to take them, keep drinking the water. Buy new underwear. Think about how much better you are feeling. Tell yourself that you are on your way back to good scrotum health. Make an appointment to see your doctor and get a physical- you've probably been putting it off due to the condition of your scrotum. This is a good time to go, reafirming your commitment to your new level of wellness.

I appreciate your comments fjones1976. I've also been having problems on my face. It's as if I'm going through puberty again. When I had flaking skin on my underside, my doctor said yeast too. I have the same concerns about spreading "this" to my family. My daughter tells me her skin itches and burns in the folds between her posterior thigh and buttocks. Also on her lower back. I often see her scratching. She scratches, and it leaves brown marks on her skin. The brown spots are scattered across her lower back, with some on her buttocks and posterior thighs. When I see my daughter scratching it literally puts a knot in my stomach. It makes me want to continue searching for answers.  I've talked to her doctor and mine about both of our symptoms, being extremely candid. They refuse to consider our symptoms together. Which I can understand on some level. It's "beyond their expertise." So, we/I become only bits and pieces, to this doctor and that one, none of whom are willing to examine us/me as a whole. Again, no answers. The doctors say, "whatever it is it's not life-threatening". But, it is life-threatening. It threatens my mental and emotional well-being. It steals from everyone and everything that depends on my being able to function efficiently. There are people and tasks that deserve my full attention, but do not get it. The pain eats away at you a little every day. That is a fact. No, I don't want to be medicated (they always want to give you some drug that treats the symptoms). I want a solution to the problem. I've been tested for HSV 1/2 a number of times (cultures and type-specific blood antibodies). All negative. If it's not HSV... great!!! But, what is it then???

i feel both your pain....I too have been having the same issue on and off for 3 years...at first it would just itching below and discharge and some peeling skin in the pubic hair region..it would clear up in a week and the docs said it was yeast....wellthis year...and this time around its been going on for 8 months continuosuly....i find when very stressed (was daily from job) i was getting more of the cracks burning at tips of thumbs and index fingers,,,and some flaking-like dry bit falls of tiny piece..also see it in pubic hair area when gets very itchy and burns and they say its folliculitis. my feet and inside mouth are also burning but oral surgeon can;t see anything ....same for severe leg pain and deep in buttocks...plus these white pustules all over face and odd one in  pubic hair...although all my tests came back negative like 4 times for everything and immunoblot was negative for HSV1 and 2...and am still depressed as in pain and worried what it is and if contagious...as my whole family is now getting the tiny scattered brown spots i am getting on bum, back, feet, inside hands and soles, face...plus this itchy bumpy rash my mom gets that looks like hives and goes away in a day only to come back....
they think i am nuts and all the docs think i am nuts too.

Well I get cuts that look like paper cuts on my hands for no apparent reason, my right hand tends to itch from time to time, also the roof of my mouth feels sore like its cut up. Also it feels like the whole chemistry of my mouth has changed it's a bit hard to explain but I'll try. Sometimes certain foods I eat trigger some kind of reaction in my mouth and causes little cuts to open up and my bottom lip seems to have thinned out on the right side. OH and my back at times feels like it's on fire and it itches so bad. I don't know what's going on and neither does any doctor it's so frustrating.

Wow I can't believe what I just read. I am having the same symptoms and no one seems to know what they are related to. I thought I was losing my mind for some time but now I see I'm not. Your experience sounds just like mine except I don't get the cuts under my finger nails or at least not yet. But other then that everything else is the same. I have been going from doctor to doctor and I am so spent and exhausted.

A recurrent bleeding cut is hardly "subjective". This is not a "should I get tested" or "should I go see a doctor" question. I've done that (gynecologist, dermatologist, PCP). And yet I have no answers. Before telling me "I don't know", my doctor threw into the mix herpes, shingles, post-herpetic neuralgia, HPV... thus the "sex connection". He even scheduled an MRI, which came back "normal". I am not unwilling to be convinced by the HSV test. It simply establishes that the symptoms are not "herpes". Therefore, what I'm looking for is suggestions as to what is actually causing the cuts/burning/itching on a daily basis. I am looking to tap into your experience as a dermatologist to uncover any avenues that can be explored. Do you have any suggestions for tests?

Thanks again.

These subtle symptoms don't add up in my mind to anything I can tink of. A lot of what you're describing is subjective ("stinging," "pain/itching", "burn/itch," etc.)  This suggests to me that you are paying very, perhaps excessively, close attention to body sensations.  Somehow in your mind these seem to be connected with sex, or with herpes.  I don't know why, since none of the symptoms and signs on your list reminds me of either.  I see no reason for you to think your negative herpes tests are false negatives.  It isn't "illogical" to think that tests are negative even though symptoms persist for a year--it just means that the tests are negative because you don't have herpes.  The question is what it will take to convince you.  Perhaps a repeat test.

Best.
