skin soreness

For about three weeks I have had a tender area on the outside of the top of my left foot.  There is no rash or anything to see, but it sometimes it feels as if it were being scratched by sandpaper and sometimes feels almost like a burn.  It gets better and worse, but sometimes even brushing a finger over it lightly hurts, and other times it hurts with nothing touching it.  It isn't so bad I can't wear my shoes or anything, but it's annoying nevertheless.  Do you have any idea what could cause this?

Thank you.  Actually, I have been wearing the same New Balance shoes I usually wear.  I have a very high arch and require very good support shoes, especially when I am on my feet a lot.  I try to take my shoes off when I'm home, though.  I always wear socks. I have never heard of hot fomentation, but I assume you mean hot packing the foot where it hurts?  I will try that, and the lotion too.

Hi,
This could be a shoe bite - have you been wearing tight shoes or new pair of shoes? apply some moisturising cream and calamine lotion over the area and do hot fomentation for some time. Wear soft sports shoes or shoes that are not covered at the sore area. This should help. Also wear socks to avoid sweating and accumulation of sweat. If the soreness still persists consult your physician and let him have a look at it. Goodluck.
