splotch on face as eczema, vitiligo, or rosacea?

I need to narrow down a skin condition that has appeared within the past year to 1 to 1 1/2 years. On my right side of the face starting from the side of the nose running along the cheek bone and ending just to the corner of the eye, is a light discoloration of my skin. Let me add that I have light brown skin tone (Filipino ethnicity). This area is consistent and seems to become more pronounced as time goes on. Sometimes, the area gets drier than the rest of my face and becomes slighly irritating to where I might scratch the area lightly. Right now, since the weather is getting cold, it seems to get red. I need to know if this can be treatable with a topical ointment or should I see a dermitologist? Thanks.

Chuck

Try searching the web for Peri-Oral Dermatitis which is apparently brought on by misuse of cortisones. You could check that the products you use on your skin do not contain Sodium Lauryl Sulfate.

For the last two months I have had a red dry scaly rash starting under my nose and spreading on the left side down to the corner of my mouth.  It is itchy but burns when scratched.  My Dr. prescribed 1% hydro cortisone which I have applied twice a day for the last month resulting in only a slight reduction of the rash appearance and no relief from the itching and burning.  Is this ecsema or maybe another condition?  Is there any other effective treatment?

I have this situation on my face that started about a month
ago.  It started on my forehead around my eyebrows.  Then worked
around my eyes and onto my cheeks.  Every morning when I would
get out of the shower, my skin would feel real dry and flaky.
I noticed that those areas would get real red.  I contacted my doctor and she gave me Prednisone or predisone which ever you spell it.  I was taking 20 mg a day for about a week and a half.
It seemed to help and the redness started to go away and also
the flakiness.  It is now starting to come back again after I
stopped taking it.  After reading some of your notes.  I am starting to beleive that I might have facial eczema. Should I take 1% hydrocortizone and see if that  helps or what should I
do?

six months ago the red rash started on my cheek the size of my pinky nail. it rew larger and spread to other cheek within 2 weeks. 1st dermotologist diagnosed it as rosacea and prescribed metrogel, cream, lotion....it made it worse. went to an nyu dermo. and he said it is a fungus. he prescribed desonide. used it for 1 week and rash went away. one week later it came back and worse than before. went back to nyu and doc gave me an acid peel which of course (after $250.00) made the condition worse. 3rd doc said it was an allergic reaction. bottom line is the rash seems to go away if I don't work out at all. the rash is red, dry, and i feel it when I am hot, especially when working out in the gym. does this sound like rosacea?? is my only option not to work out anymore? does eating ice chips during a work out help stop the condition from coming back? is this ridiculous skin disease here to stay?? please help. i am so frustrated from these docs and their diagnosis. i've read all of the q&as in this forum and it sounds to me like i do have the rosacea but would love another opinion and maybe some miraculous helpful hints! Thank You!

i recently was diagnosed with dermatitis on the face. my dermatologist prescribed logoderm which cleared it up reall ywell. imy g.p has since then told me to stop using the logoderm as it can have side effects. since i stopped applying the logoderm i have a red type of rash or eczema around my chin and cheeks. i went to the doctor and he gave me sigmacort cream and minomycin. my question is has anyone else used logoderm or minomycin and how have they found these two medications. thank you jake. please feel free to email me at ***@****. being from Australia im just wondering are there any newer treatments in the states which aren't yet available here.

I have redness on my face on the cheeks under the eyes, across up to the sides of my cheek bones, and a drop on the bridge of my nose. It gets irritated at times, it stings a little and it appears to have dead like or dry skin on top of the redness. It seems to flare up after outside in the cold air, or after a sweaty exercise, I'll feel a burning sensation and then there is redness that looks like I got burned. I put hydrocortisone on it, it seems to go away after a couple of days, but comes right back after  week or so, sometimes sooner. Could it be ecsema, rosacea, or some other type of skin disorder/disease?

Chuck:

What you describe sounds like a form of facial eczema, with mild hypopigmentation (lessening of color.)  This is treatable and temporary.  Why not apply 1% hydrocortisone (OTC) twice a day for 2 weeks.  That should get rid of the eczema and make the skin smooth.  The pigment should return in 1 or 2 months.  If it doesn't, see a dermatologist.

Best.
