staph infection???

About 5 months ago I started having this red spot on my ankle, I didn't think much of it and kept putting over the counter ointments on it. I scartched it a few times and it became an open sore. Then it started spreading all over my leg up to my knee and on my other leg as well. I finally went to the doctor and she said it was a Staph infection. She put me on a week of Bactrim and gave me Topicort. It helped somewhat, but it didn't make it go away completely. The rash wasn't as itchy and looked less inflamed...but now it all came back, and its spreading on to my thighs. The spots have scabs on them and sometimes form a yellow/brownish crust. They're EXTREMELLY itchy, and once one part has healed it leaves a brown ugly discoloration on my skin and another scab forms on another part of my leg, it can be as little a razor bump and some get as big as a quarter size...im starting to think its something else other than Staph infection.
