Genital Itch

15 years suffreing from genital itch & stinging , mainly on right side.

Various local treatments were not helpful : cortizones, elidel, moisturizers, divonex, eurax, antibiotic anti-fungal etc...  Same with topical ones : prednizone, anti-fungal, antihistamines etc...

The rash itself cleared immesnly following some of the treatments but the itch didn't go. There were some remission periods though.

Bathing once a day morning with soapless soap. Currently not putting any cream on the place. Trying some homeopathic treament.

Don't care about the rash / redness - just the itch. Skin doctors diganosed it as psoriasis inverse, fungal, erythrasma, dry skin - i'm fed up with contradictory diganosis. Could be either of the diagnosis was correct, thus maybe even some small appearance of natural candida could trigger the itch.

Quesiton is how to get rid of the itch / stinging. Even when its not severe, just minor, the place is very sensitive, thus it is frustrating. Lately, someone thinks it might be neurodermatitis though i don't scratch it - maybe cause by natural rubbing of the skin.

Hi mrk4444,

Your plight can be understood.

How long have you had this genital itch?

What medication are you on presently?

You have to keep some hope and take an opinion from a dermatologist. I understand that you have attempted different medications, but the only way forward is to talk to your doctor and find out the root cause.

Meanwhile, you can take some OTC anti-histamines for the itching. You should also maintain hygiene at the site and keep the area moisturized. Wash all your inner wear in warm water and dry it out in the sun to eliminate any louse or scabies.

Hope this helped.

mrk,  I've had the same problem with conflicting diagnosese over 11 years.  The itch has gotten worse and worse and I have been having more and more trouble sleeping.  Finally, i saw a GOOD dermatologist who did a punch biopsy of the area.  Found that I've got Erythrasma which is caused by the corynebacterium minutissimum bacteria and am being treated with 500 mg Erythromycin 2x a day for 2 weeks, maybe more.  Doc  will consider Erythromycin ointment also if this doesn't clear it.  Good luck.  I'm truly empathetic to your plight.  I've been screaming (in my head) "Help me!" for years!
