what are the preventions to be taken for Balanitis recurrence.

There was tiny boils/bumps on the head /glens of the penis under the skin. I am circumcised. There is also a slight and small redish area just under the glans/head of the penis which was itchy. There was also a purplish area that feels a little sore on the bottom edge of the head. I got married  8 months back. It has been repeated fourth time in 1 year period. One time appeared before marriage and three times after marriage, all times in the mouth as well. Boils are not appearing on every intercourse. Whenever they are appearing, I noticed on next day of intercourse. Starting by itching, within 12 hours turning to water filled boils as mention above. Before marriage i was never sexually active this can't be a sexually transmitted disease can it?. I approached to a doctor he prescribe me some antibiodic caps and Bactroban (Cream) , Thank God, Now i cured. but still my new skin is very thin and sensitive. Please advice me which soap i have to used and what precaution to be taken after intercourse (should be rinse with any antibacterial liquid). Also, please suggests me any cream to thicken my skin its very thin i am afraid during intercouse it may rub and damage. I'd appreciate you....please advice me.

Hi,

Balanitis is inflammation of the glans penis. Lack of aeration and irritation because of smegma and discharge surrounding the glans penis causes inflammation and edema.

The inflammation can be due to infection, harsh soaps, or failure to properly rinse soap off while bathing. One common organism associated with balanitis is a yeast known as Candida albicans.  Balanitis may occur because of excessive growth of Candida, due to moisture and warmth under the foreskin.

It can be treated by applying Miconazole, an anti-fungal medication. Most cases of balanitis can be controlled with medicated creams and good hygiene.

to prevent recurrence - Retract the foreskin daily and soak in warm water to clean penis and foreskin. Apply bacitracin (not Neosporin) for pediatric patients if bacterial infection is suspected. Applicaltion of topical clotrimazole for adult men with probable candidal balanitis may help.

If the symptoms persist, you would need to consult your doctor.

Let us know if you need any other information.

Regards.
