Is it diabetes????

I am wondering if I might be insulin resistant. Or have diabetes. For a little over a year I have gradually gained weight. No matter what  I do, how much exercise, and what I eat I can not lose weight. I have tried every exercise program, diet plan there is.
All of my weight is in my stomach. A few weeks ago I took a week off from work and wasn't as active as normal and gained 7 pounds !!!! No changes in my diet but wasnt as active. I can not get that weight off. And ever since then I have been very fatigued even with 8 hours of sleep each night.
I read the symptoms of diabetes and I do drink ALOT every day, urinate all day long......and the weight gain. Could this be diabetes? I am 26 yrs old with no family history of diabetes.

hi
Everyone is different so my situation may not apply to you at all.
I am referring to diabetes, hormones are another can of worms for me (:
I kind of suspected that I may be diabetic but the md I was seeing at the time, wouldn't even do a finger ***** the first time I asked.  A month or so later (it's been a longtime!) on new years eve............ I treated myself to a Kaluah and milk.  I was home alone (stupid) I know. I woke up the next morning dying of thirst that I almost couldn't quench. I felt like I had a hangover, (I never got drunk before, so I assumed.....  )   I started losing weight rapidly  without trying. I was also urinating a LOT and often.  I finally got someone at the office to check me. My fasting b.s was around 180.  surprise ):
Wave rider is so right!  If your doctor shrugs you off, fire him/her.  I would also if your not going to one you might want to change (to start with) to an internist. They just, in my case
seem to be much more thorough.  Nope your not crazy!!!

Be certain the doctor doesn't send you home with an Rx for a bunch of pills w/o explaining the causes/reasons for your unintended weight gain, fatigue, excess thirst and frequent urination. Unintended weight gain has various medical causes which includes thyroid disorders.

Even though fatigue, excess thirst and frequent urination are usually associated with diabetes they also are symptoms of liver and kidney disease. Ask for a complete health examination - head to toe. If you feel the doctor is rushing you in/out of his/her office, go find one that is interested in taking care of your health. Good luck

I agree with Super Sally...my first thought was Thyroid. See a doctor for a full work up including all the blood work Sally suggested.

Hi,

I would suggest you see your doctor to get check for thyroid (TSH, FT3 and FT4), and also get tested for diabetes (fasting glucose and HA1C).

They could also test for PCOS /Metabolic syndrome.  There are a range of hormones to be tested for.

Definitely this rapid weight gain is a concern.

Let us know how you go.
