Pre Diabetes
I was diagnosed with Pre Diabetes last NOV & put on Metformin twice a day. I am 37 years old  5'6 & weigh 170. I do have family history of late onset . Isn't diabetes @ 37 @ my weight unusual?

Diabetes of both types can happen at any age. I was diagnosed at age 58 and I am Type 1 (LADA). How is the Metformin working to control your blood sugar? Have you lost weight? If you have trouble controlling your blood sugar at some point be sure and get your Type checked. I was initially misdiagnosed due to my age.

Thanks! The Metformin has seemed to help until past few weeks.I have started having the sleepy spells again(that is what I call it .) I have been exercising regularly & have only lost about 5 lbs so far. I also had my gallbladder removed the end of April.....is there any relation diabetes & gallbladder? My surgeon said gallbladder was white & pink....he said it had been going on for a while....just curious. I also have eczema...it has been all over my body lately....typically only get on hands.
My mother feels like I should go see a specialist & nutritionist. i feel like I should be able to control my diet.....but so far don't seem to be doing a very good job.
I am also wondering if people with diabetes ever experience increase in heart rate after eating carbs/sweets.....I realize I should not be eating but I have noticed mine increasing....again just curious.
Thak you for info!

A couple questions. Do you test? It's important to test your fasting blood sugar and then to test two hours after meals. If you test you might find the " sleepy spells"  mean you're too high. Also I would wonder if you were high when you have that increased heart rate which would tell you to reduce carbs and eliminate sweets. As a pre-diabetic you don't have to test all the time, but testing after various meals at first will give you an idea what kind of foods you can and can't eat to keep your blood sugar under 140 two hours after. Do you know about carbs? If you want, send me a message and I'll give you a couple websites where you can talk to more diabetics.

I have not been testing. i found out the other day that my doctor likes to see patients like me every three months to test .......I have not been checked since Nov. I have not completely cut out sweets which I guess I need to do....UGH! I know I need to lower carbs I just don't know how many I should take in on a daily basis. I would love more info from others...thank you!

We all vary in how many carbs we eat. Some people eat very low carbs and get excellent results with blood sugar. I myself eat moderately low carbs (about 100 a day) which works out well for me as I'm a vegetarian. That's why I mention testing, because everyone is different and can eat different things in different amounts and come in under target. I personally can not eat rice, not AT ALL, same thing with cereal and I have the benefit of insulin to help with control. I will send you the websites in a private message as I'm not allowed to post them here.
