Very low cholesterol is not healthy. It leaves you deprived of coenzyme Q10. In fact there is now question as to whether high cholesterol actually results in increased heart attacks.
I love being the contrarian..... I've been on a statin, Simvastatin to be precise for more than five years? This follows a protracted period of trying to reduce my cholesterol "naturally". So I dropped the fats and meats and went on a low fat diet which consisted of ...... Carbohydrates! My cholesterol went down a little to about 215, and my blood glucose began to rise dramatically. Then I tried a statin, a low dose 20mg. daily of Simvastatin. Today, my total cholesterol is around 135, I live on a Paleo diet, and my A1C is 5.7, down from a high of 7.2. I take it without any noticeable side effects. I might be getting "up there", but as you can see by the pictures on my page, I'm pretty active for an old guy. Are statins for everybody? Perhaps not. But don't just wholesale blow them off. It's just a pill. You can discontinue it if you experience adverse side effects.
the big drug houses are giving medical advice on TV. At one time that was considered unlawful. But I guess networks, government, and everyone else with power wants money more than our welfare.
Thanks everyone. Just curious. Seems like they are trying to give medical advice and I must say I don't much appreciate it. If I wanted everyone behind me to know my business I would announce it over the loud speaker....
Statins have many side effects and should not be first line approach. Lifestyle measures ; diet and exercise are more important.
Please do not pay attention or feel pressured about these meds.

They are pushing medications to make more money. By the way, their behavior is not ethical and I would make a complaint.
Yes my cholesterol is a little high. My blood pressure has always been good and has nothing to do with a statin. I guess if it had been bad then they would have tried to push another medication as well. I am just wondering why they are trying to push medications?
