Calories and macro nutrient ratios
I am setting my fitness pal goals to help keep track of my diet.  Trying to figure out calorie/carb/fat/protein ratio. For someone pre-diabetic/possibly type 2.  I am 5'4 195 lbs.  I have it set for 1200 cal 25%carb 30%fat 45%protein.  I have had blood sugar issues but haven't been sticking with the program.  I have been feeling crappy lately so I started tracking sugars again and it's not so great.  I plan to got to the Dr. next week to have my a1c1 checked.  It's been a while.  Any advice would be great.

Hi Amy,

I also use my fitness pal.  I eat low carb (keto style - < 20 g / day). However, some people don't want to be that strict and just eat lower carb).

For me I am tracking both macros and also have a target daily calories of about 1400 calories.   In my case my macro targets are 5% carbs (20g), 15% protein (60g) and 80% fats.

A small scale is useful for weighing foods.   Read labels. Focus on eating unprocessed foods.

As a general guideline when eating low carb the easiest way is to cut out all grains and added sugars. No sweetened foods either.  Fruits will be limited to small portions of low carb fruits such as berries.

Plenty of salad and non-starchy vegetables, particularly green vegetables.    Fats should come naturally with the foods (such as fatty meats, avocado, nuts, full-fat dairy) and avoid processed fats.

Let us know what your a1c is.

Hope this response is helpful for you.   Please ask questions.

You say your having problems with BG, carbohydrates raise BG  all carbs do is raise BG.

If its time to eat, if your BG is too high why eat a food (carbs)  that will only raise BG more?
