I have been a distance runner since my college days, ran marathons, ultra marathons, etc... Still run about 6 miles every day. Start slowly don't push yourself. If you feel discomfort, stop and walk. Gradually your body will toughen up. But be patient, its really easy to get injured if you are just starting up.
Jogging is tuff on feet. ankles, knees, hips. But not any worse than non diabetics. provided you have good BG control and no neropathy.
PS good BG control is always less than 140
