Metaformin and the future.

So my doctor prescribed me some Metaformin and will recheck me in 3 months.

He seems just as proactive about my health as I am, which is good.  I like'em.

But I'm worried.  How low can my A1C go?  I'm at 6.0 A1C, and wonder how low it can go from now until 3 months from now.

I've already been on the HFLC diet.  Even spoke to a nutritionist who is helping me.

I want to know what I should expect in 3 months.  I'm 147lbs and 5'3".  Doc wants me to lose 20lbs.  I know I can do it!  Or at least damn close.

I take Chromium also.

Will Metaformin really work?  He said it'll help insulin sensitivity a lot, and seem optimistic.

So in summation, will metaformin really work?  And what expectation should I have for my A1C in 3 months?  I don't want to hope for a 4.7 A1C and instead get a 5.9, Ya know?

Also, I'm confused as hell about this disease.  Is what I'm doing preventing it, delaying it, or curing it?  Can I go down to 5.0 and occasionally enjoy ice cream again?  Or go to an Italian restuarant and have pasta again as long as I keep the weight off and such?

He said that full blown can take 10 years away from my life.  I don't want to lose that.  Can I seriously keep it away even when my ability to run 30min on a treadmill begins to diminish due to aging?

By the way, old people can jog for 30 minutes on a treadmill quite successfully if they stay active their whole life.

You are already doing the lifestyle measures: weight loss, exercise, and LCHF diet.

Metformin quite possibly will help you if you have insulin resistance.  It may even, with the other measure, be enough to get your Hba1c into the low 5s.  It may even help with weight loss, if insulin resistance is the issue.

Go with it, keep up what your're doing, and see what happens in 3 months.  If it is higher than you want in 3 months, then you have to either increase the dose or tweak something.

Come back and let us know how you are going.

What will Met do for you... no way to tell Met helps a lot of people and some people get no help from Met.  Some people have such herendis side effects from Met that they cant use it.  It all depends on how it works for you.

Diabetes is SO different for each person! both in how it effects there body and how much each person is willing to do to control it.

Prevent... dont know
Delay, definitely you may be able to delay it till your 100 (if you die at 98 then you you prevented it)

CONTROL  definitely.

I know diabetics that occasionally eat pasta... I am not willing to as it will shoot my BG well over 200
